A Call to Prayer and Presence at the Colorado Capitol

Today, January 14, 2026, the Colorado legislative session begins. This is not just another date on the calendar—it is a season of decision-making that will shape laws, culture, families, churches, and future generations in our state.

As Christians, we are called not to withdraw from moments like this, but to pray, engage, and show up.

Pray for Godly Wisdom, Not the Wisdom of Man

Scripture reminds us:

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Proverbs 3:5–6

Our legislators face complex and weighty decisions. The wisdom they need cannot come from polling data, party platforms, or human reasoning alone. It must come from the Lord.

We are instructed clearly:

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
1 Timothy 2:1–2

Pray for godly wisdom—wisdom that fears the Lord:

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10

Pray for Their Health, Safety, and Families

We should pray not only for believing legislators, but for all of them, regardless of faith, lack of faith, or party alignment.

Pray for their physical health, mental clarity, emotional strength, and protection for their families. Many carry burdens we never see. Scripture calls us to love even those who oppose us:

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
Matthew 5:44

Prayer softens hearts—including our own.

Get Actively Involved: Faith Without Works Is Dead

Prayer does not replace action—it fuels it.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
James 2:17

Every constituent in Colorado has the ability to reach out directly to their legislators. Use the state’s website to find your representatives and senators. Then engage:

  • Make phone calls

  • Send emails that are cordial, respectful, and kind—but clear and direct

  • Write stamped, physical letters (they are surprisingly effective because they are rare)

Our words should reflect Christ:

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Colossians 4:6

Show Up: Visit the Capitol

If you are able, visit the Capitol in Denver during the session. There is something profoundly clarifying about being physically present in that building.

I have found that visiting the Capitol:

  • Deepens prayer

  • Brings clarity to the real needs inside the building

  • Helps us understand the spiritual atmosphere and challenges legislators face

Decisions are often made—or heavily influenced—by those who show up.

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Proverbs 28:1

Encourage your pastor to visit the Capitol as well. Shepherds should know where decisions affecting their flock are being made.

Christians Must Be Present

Those who oppose the Lord and His ways are already present in the Capitol. They show up consistently, passionately, and strategically.

So should we.

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21

It should not be difficult for believers—walking in truth, humility, and love—to overwhelm evil with good when we pray, act, and remain faithful.

A Final Encouragement

This legislative session is an opportunity. Let us not miss it.

Pray faithfully.
Engage respectfully.
Show up boldly.

“Now therefore arise, O LORD God, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.”
2 Chronicles 6:41

May the Lord grant wisdom, protection, repentance where needed, and righteousness in our state—and may His people be found faithful in this hour.
