Praying for Colorado Law Makers

As the legislative session begins in Colorado on January 9th, 2023, now is the perfect time to remind ourselves of the importance of praying for our legislators and public officials. The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-3 KJV that we should pray for "kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty". As Christians, it is essential to our faith that we follow God's commands and offer up prayers for those who have been placed in positions of authority over us. Here are four reasons why we should be praying for our legislators and public officials:

1. To maintain order - Praying for those who are making laws and regulations helps ensure that there will be a peaceful order within society.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. —Romans 13:1-2

We want to live in a world where justice is administered fairly according to God's will.

2. To advance righteousness - By praying for our elected officials, we can help move society toward greater levels of righteousness.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. — Proverbs 14:34

We can ask God to give them wisdom so they make decisions based on sound moral judgement.

3. To bring salvation - Most importantly, prayer can lead people to salvation through Jesus Christ.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. —Romans 10:13

Our ultimate goal should be that everyone experiences the transforming power of the Gospel including those in public office!

Let us join together in prayer this legislative session, asking God to guide our public officials with wisdom, justice, and grace as they carry out their duties on behalf of their constituents.
